October in Oshkosh

October in Oshkosh is such a great time to be part of the community and come and visit. With a slight chill in the air, downtown Oshkosh has so much offer.

OktoberfestSaturday, October 1st, the 7th annual Oshkosh Oktoberfest takes place on the corner of 6th and Oregon by Dockside on the river from 8:00-5:00 PM. Come taste authentic German food from the Roxy Supper Club. Enjoy great German music, watch some incredible dancers and learn about the unique German heritage all while participating in various contests.  Included this year is the Masskrugstemmen Stein holding contest, barrel rolling, cheese toss, Sheepshead games and lessons and our Oktoberfest 2K Bier run plus exciting raffles and prizes.  That evening, Oshkosh Gallery Walk holds its monthly art walk.  Area businesses are open from 6:00-9:00 PM to showcase local artwork from canvas, to jewelry to pottery.

BOSS holds annual Bash and Chili Cook-off

One of my favorite events in Oshkosh is the Oshkosh Chili Cook Off which takes places Saturday, October 8th. With over thirty different amateur chili cook-off teams, this is a great way to explore everything from the traditional chili recipe to fruit and even chocolate chili’s. Plus you even get to vote for your favorite.  Other activities include a beer tent with micro brews as well as great music by Salza Manzana from Noon – 3pm. Gates open at 12:00pm with Free Salsa & Pico de Gallo tasting at each booth.

Gamepalooza, October 14-16th is a new event that has come to Oshkosh. This weekend long table top gaming event takes place at Gruenhagen Conference Center. Family games, miniature games, role playing, collectible card games, war games, you name it, it is here. There will be vendors selling games and game related items. This is great weekend to learn a new game or expand on the ones you already know and love.

Oshkosh Oktoberfest

September 23, 2013 by braytonbb

Oshkosh Oktoberfest will be kicking off their celebration again with German food, music and culture on  Saturday, October 5th. This year the festivities will be held at the Dockside Tavern parking lot.  Oshkosh Mayor, Burk Tower will be tapping the ceremonial keg at 2:00 PM.

There will be many great events held this year like the 2K Bier run and costume contest, starting at 11:00 AM. The run/ walk will be utilizing the new Riverwalk while making a loop with four beer stops. Of course you have to have proper ID, so be prepared! You will also walk away with a commemorative Oshkosh Oktoberfest beer stein and shirt (while supplies last). Oktoberfest is a free event, however there is an entry fee of $15.00 prior or $20.00 the day of the run to participate.  You can register at Dockside Tavern, Barely & Hops or at Run Away Shoes. All proceeds go to Cerebral Palsy of Midwest Wisconsin.  Everyone participating is encouraged to dress in costume (preferably German, but definitely tasteful). Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes, in both individual and group categories.

What you don’t feel like a run/walk on Saturday? How about Oktoberfest Olympics?  Several different competitive games, such as a Barrel Rolling contest, Masskrugstemmen (Beer Stein Holding) contest, Stein Relay races, Fraulein Carrying races, and a Frankfurter Eating contest. This is all great fun and all for a good cause with a chance to win some great prizes. German Wine Tastings and German Bier Tastings will be available for those of age. Children’s Playland Area, Cultural Displays, and Sheepshead games will be going on all day as well.

Of course there is also some great entertainment that will be provided by Blakapelle Milwaukee, Copper Box, and Greg Waters and the Broad Street Boogie from 2:00-11:00 PM. For  more information, you can go to http://www.oshkoshoktoberfest.com/
